2018 Keynotes

2018 Keynote Speaker

Emily Chang

Keynote

Anchor & Executive Producer, Bloomberg TechnologyBrotopia

2018 BVC Keynote Speaker

Friday’s keynote, Emily Chang, is the anchor and executive producer of Bloomberg Technology, a daily TV show focused on global technology. She regularly speaks with top tech executives, investors, and entrepreneurs in her podcast, Bloomberg Studio 1.0. The Harvard University graduate has won five regional Emmy awards for her reporting and was previously a CNN correspondent in both Beijing and London. She is also the bestselling author of the groundbreaking book, Brotopia, a look at the world of Silicon Valley and what it is like to navigate the “boys’ club” culture as a woman in tech.

Innovation is fueled by diversity. Emily’s keynote will address the numerous studies that have been done to show how diverse teams outperform non-diverse ones, particularly when a customer demographic is represented in a company’s workforce. This comes into conflict with human nature and our tendency to surround ourselves with similar people, with the question if diverse teams can be created “naturally.”

Emily will explore this topic in depth and other learnings from her book Brotopia. She will explore what optimal diversity looks like, the impact of her book both positive and negative, and what it’s like to speak to some of the most powerful voices and personalities in global technology.
